Amaryllid Seed

Crinum Bulbispermum 'Giant Red Form'  First collected by Rachel and Rod Saunders in 2001 far from the main populations
of Crinum Bulbispermum and at a much higher altitude.
This form exhibits much larger leaves and flower the the type form in fact the whole plant
is more than double the size ( over 1 meter high ) with glaucous broad leaves and
flowers that are predominantly red though this may vary in seed grown plants.
This form is also much earlier flowering , often in full bloom prior to mid Spring
and many believe that it is soo different to the type plant it it deserves different taxa entirely.
Bulbs become huge over time , up to 25cm in diameter and are almost impossible to excavate
so be sure to find a permanent position with at least 1 square meter of space.

Seed is large, fleshy and ethereal , striking roots without soil nor water and will only
be available until the roots have formed and become too long to send safely without damage.
Therefore will only be available for the next 3 to 4 weeks (unless sold out).

If you are new to sowing this type of seed  you will be surprised how easily it germinates.
In fact the seed can be left dry upon receipt awaiting the formation of the tap root. This will tell you
which way is down :) . Push the seed gently into a sandy loam mix to approx 1 third of its depth
and cover the other 2 thirds with a straw mulch to anchor the seed a little. Water in well and often
, at least twice week in hot weather. 100% germination can be expected.

Per Seed $1.60
